I'm surprised I've not asked this before. I know there are little pockets of PomsinOZers in The Shire, Northern Beaches, Hills District.

I was in Kingsgrove today for an interview and then stayed on for coffee which became lunch in The Grove cafe - noticed that Kingsgrove has a number of units going up. Then I went to Campsie and walked up and down Beamish St, taking in the 'ethnic' sights and sounds and smells.

I don't think I have heard of anyone on PIO who lives in either 'suburb?'

I am in Surry Hills of course, although I also say Strawberry Hills, which is a bit of a 'dead' suburb as it only 'lives' on in the Post Office and the pub - going to the pub right now in fact!

I am sad enough to put all the information on a spreadsheet!

Glad you've asked the question. I'm in the process of accepting a job and hopefully starting work in July. I am a 39 year old single woman, and want to live somewhere where I can meet lots of people and have a bit of life. I think I can afford up to 650 a week, and don't want to travel more that 45 minutes to North Sydney (the office) - I also want to be able to go out in the evenings and get home. I'm thinking of not getting a car and relying on Public Transport.

Am I mad - where do you recommend?

I lived in Kingsgrove for 2 months from October to December 2011. Those apartments were just gutted buildings when I was there. Could be a nice, not too far out suburb but just didn't really hack it. Quick trains to Central but only every half hour (less late at night and weekends), terrible road congestion and dangerous junction by the station / pub.

I lived next door to the pub, a lot of poms worked there. Mainly Islanders / Maoris that drunk there with Greeks and Italians visiting their parents at weekend's.

No supermarket but a lot of cafes, pizzerias, Vietnamese bakeries etc. were opening so it might be up and coming with the new developments. Massive RSL - but a particularly soulless one.

Neutral Bay, Crows Nest, North Sydney itself, if you want to stay on the north side of the harbour - Surry Hills, Newtown, Glebe, Darlinghurst, Kings Cross, if you don't. If your office is easy walking distance from North Sydney station then the commute from, say, Surry Hills where I live, would be easy - Central, Town Hall, Wynard, Milsons Point, North Sydney on the train and there is loads to do in Surry Hills (but I am biased!)

I'm up in Cammeray and I love it!

Buses to the city every 5 mins in the morning and I'm to my office in about 25 mins from door to door.

In 1980/81, I lived with my brothers in a unit on the corner of Miller & Ernest Sts. North Sydney Anzac Club (RIP) was opposite and we used to park our cars there and eat our meals there. The San Miguel Hotel is also RIP! I think there is a shopping centre there just over the freeway. Norths Leagues is still there though, and is that 'beer cafe' open still?

I can still remember walking up to Cammeray with a raging hangover one Sat morning, buying a 'Moove' and bringing the empty carton back home to throw away, and my brother - with an equally raqing hangover, raging for me for being too mean to bring him a 'Moove!'

We were living in that unit when our parents made their first (of many) visits to Sydney. They stayed with a friend of my Mum's in Castlecrag.
